Photograph Your Lock for Identification

Updated October 11, 2026

Five photos identify nearly any lock

  1. Exterior face — brand logo and trim style.
  2. Interior face — thumbturn shape, battery cover, screws.
  3. Latch edge — faceplate shape and any stamped model.
  4. Key bow — SC1 / KW1 stamp and keyway.
  5. Strike and frame — plate size and screw condition.

Use the photos three ways

Shoot for measurement, not beauty

Straight-on, flash on, tape measure in frame for bore and backset shots. Blurry angle shots identify nothing — retake while the ladder is still out.
