Photograph Your Lock for Identification
Updated October 11, 2026
Five photos identify nearly any lock
- Exterior face — brand logo and trim style.
- Interior face — thumbturn shape, battery cover, screws.
- Latch edge — faceplate shape and any stamped model.
- Key bow — SC1 / KW1 stamp and keyway.
- Strike and frame — plate size and screw condition.
Use the photos three ways
- Model lookup — read brand and model, then pull specs in the model lookup.
- Quote accuracy — send the set to the locksmith before the visit; phone quotes with photos beat blind quotes. Verify with the quote checker.
- Move-in and turnover records — attach to the move-in and turnover checklists.
Shoot for measurement, not beauty
Straight-on, flash on, tape measure in frame for bore and backset shots. Blurry angle shots identify nothing — retake while the ladder is still out.
