One master key, many tenant keys

A master-key system gives each tenant a key for their unit plus one master that opens selected doors (common areas, maintenance, turnover). Below ~10 doors, a full locksmith-designed system is overkill — key control deadbolts and SmartKey alike-groups cover it.

Small-scale options in order

1. Kwikset Key Control Deadbolt — tenant plus master cylinders in one lock; cheapest master-key alternative. In the lookup as Key Control deadbolt.
2. SmartKey alike-groups — per-unit alike groups plus a manager spare set. Rekey at turnover in minutes.
3. Locksmith master-key suite — pinned master-keyed cylinders with a recorded bitting chart. Required above ~10 doors or where key control is contractual.

Size and price it

Run the master-key planner with your zones and door counts, then hand the output to the locksmith as the spec — it is cheaper than paying hourly for the design conversation. Pair with the turnover checklist.
